LGA Players Information

All players must have an established handicap in the U.S.G.A. computer system or play at least 5 games to establish a handicap in order to compete for prizes. If your handicap is kept at another golf course, you must call in (529-9452) or e-mail (creese@rivnet.net) your new handicap index to Carol prior to the first Wednesday of each month. If you do not have an established handicap, see Martha to get on the computer system at Quinton Oaks.

You are expected to post your scores for all games played so that your handicap accurately reflects your playing ability. Equitable stroke control limits the number of strokes a player can post on a hole depending on the player's handicap. The limits are as follows:

18-Hole Handicap Maximum Number Posted
9 or less Double Bogie
10-19 7
20-29 8
30-39 9
40-49 10
50 & above 11

Players should arrive at least 30 minutes prior to tee time so hole assignments can be made. If you are running late, call the club (529-5367) and let us know you are coming so you can be assigned to a hole or a team.

Players will be assigned to playing groups each week depending on the game. When not playing a game where players are assigned opponents by handicap, tees will be drawn to determine hole assignments. Twenty-four tees, three per hole assignment are available. Players coming in after all tees have been drawn will be assigned to holes starting with the last hole.

Three dollars will be collected each week, except when the game is "match play". One dollar goes to the Association and two dollars goes to prize money. In "match play", one dollar will be collected for the Association and the winning player receives the opponent's two dollars at the end of play.

A player must play with the Association at least 10 times to be eligible to compete for prizes in the Ladies' Association tournament, held toward the end of the season.

Putt and chip-in contests are available each week for 25 cents each for those who wish to participate. Put a quarter in the cup and check off your name on the appropriate sheet. Remember to record your putts and chip-ins at the end of play. Only strokes taken on the green count as putts.

If you have a BIRDIE during play on ladies' day, sign the "BIRDIE SHEET" so your birdie will be recorded and put on the "birdie tree" in the ladies' room.

Gloria Smith is going to do the "Ringer" chart this year which will be posted in the Ladies' room. Your lowest score on each hole during the season will be your "Ringer" score " what you would have scored if you had played your best on each hole during the same round. Two score cards should be turned in each week and dated, so Gloria can take one for the ringer.

Darlene Bean organizes travel days, usually at least once a month, for those wishing to play other courses around the area. It is beneficial to have either a VSGA (Virginia State Golf Association) VIP card, an American Lung Association Book, or a Tee Time Golf Pass for these days because it allows play at a reduced rate. Applications for the VSGA-VIP card are available on-line at vsga.org, membership tab. The American Lung Book phone number is 1-800-586-4872. Tee Time Golf Pass may be available at Quinton Oaks, ordered online at dailypress.com/golf/ or can be ordered by calling 1-800-944-6908.

The VSGA also sponsors a variety of tournaments for women "stroke play, four ball, captain's choice, etc. " throughout the season at different locations around the state. Several ladies' groups from Quinton Oaks generally participate in some of the tournaments each year. If you are interested in tournament play, talk to Darlene Bean.
